We are includED is committed to making our digital footprint accessible to everyone, regardless of ability or technology. We want our website and digital resources to be easy to use and navigate for all users, reflecting our core values of inclusion and proactive support.
As a service powered by Homefield College, we aim for our online platforms to comply with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 level AA standards.
This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 level AA due to the limitations listed below.
To ensure a high standard of accessibility across our website and downloadable professional materials, we actively implement the following practices:
- Logical heading structure: we use a clear and consistent hierarchy of headings to ensure screen readers can navigate our pages easily.
- Alternative text: we provide descriptive alt text for all meaningful images across our site.
- Clear contrast: our visual branding balances energetic and reassuring tones while strictly maintaining high contrast to support users with low vision or colour blindness.
- Plain English: we write our text in clear, plain English and avoid unnecessary jargon to ensure our information is straightforward and scannable.
- Accessible resources: all downloadable digital materials are checked against structural accessibility guidelines before public launch.
Whilst we strive to ensure total accessibility across our digital spaces, we recognise that some areas may occasionally fall short. We are continually working to review and improve our platforms.
Our website is delivered via the LearnWorlds platform. Whilst this allows us to provide rich learning experiences, it also introduces some technical limitations that are outside of our direct control. In particular:
- Platform-generated components: some elements of the site are created automatically by LearnWorlds. This means we have limited control over how these are structured, which may affect how assistive technologies interpret content.
- Keyboard navigation: some interactive areas of the platform may not always provide a fully consistent or predictable keyboard navigation experience.
- Screen reader compatibility: some features may not consistently provide clear structure, labels or reading order for screen reader users.
- Course and interactive content: certain types of learning content (such as interactive activities, SCORM/HTML5 packages or externally embedded tools) may not fully meet WCAG 2.1 AA standards and cannot always be modified within the platform.
- Documents and downloadable materials: some uploaded files (such as PDFs or presentations) may not be fully adaptable once embedded in the platform environment.
- Multimedia content: some video or audio materials may not yet include captions, transcripts or audio descriptions where these have not been provided at source.
- Visual design constraints: some aspects of layout, focus indicators and colour contrast are influenced by platform templates and may not always meet WCAG 2.1 AA requirements across all pages.
- Reliance on third-party accessibility tools: LearnWorlds supports accessibility enhancements through external tools; however, these do not guarantee full compliance and cannot modify all content types or integrations.
Accessibility support may therefore vary across different parts of the website, particularly between standard informational pages and interactive learning environments.
If you encounter a resource, document or page that is not fully accessible to you, please let us know so we can resolve the issue or provide the information in an alternative format.
We are includED takes a practical, user-centred approach to accessibility testing. This website has been tested using a combination of:
- In-house accessibility checks, including manual review of page structure, navigation and content clarity.
- Screen reader testing using commonly available assistive technologies.
- Keyboard-only navigation testing to assess operability without a mouse.
- User feedback from neurodivergent individuals, helping us improve readability, clarity and overall user experience.
- Ongoing internal review processes, including checks on new content and resources before publication.
Testing is carried out on a regular basis, and we continue to make improvements where issues are identified.
We welcome your feedback on the accessibility of the We are includED platform. If you experience any accessibility barriers or require any of our documents, forms or training resources in an alternative format (such as large print or an easy-read format), please get in touch with us:
